Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Half of the Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball field goals on Friday night were 3-pointers in a 63-50 victory over Aquinas (Mich.) College in the Crossroads / WHAC Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
No. 4-ranked Indiana Wesleyan hit 12-of-22 (54.5-percent) from beyond the arc and just 12-of-36 (33.3-percent) from inside the 3-point line. Junior guard Jordan Weidner was 5-of-7 from range as he scored a game-high 21 points. Indiana Wesleyan finished the game with an excellent 16-to-9 assists/turnover ratio.
Defensively, the Wildcats held the Saints to just 40.4-percent (19 of 47) shooting and 20.0-percent (3 of 15) from 3-point range. The Saints could only muster 27 points in the first half and just 23 in the final 20 minutes.
Aquinas did hold a large advantage in the fouls and free throw categories on Friday. Indiana Wesleyan was called for 19 fouls compared to nine for Aquinas. The free throw numbers show the foul disparity as Aquinas went to the line 19 times to just five for Indiana Wesleyan. But Aquinas could not take advantage as they hit just 9-of-19 (43.4-percent) from the line.
Senior forward Patrick Hopkins just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard DJ Bettinger added six points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Indiana Wesleyan finishes play at the Crossroads / WHAC Challenge tomorrow against host and No. 20-ranked Cornerstone (Mich.) University at 3 p.m. Cornerstone defeated No. 21-ranked Spring Arbor (Mich.) University 69-56 in the other Friday night contest.
