PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Sophomore designated hitter Craig Dollens hit a clutch two out RBI in the bottom of the sixth as Indiana Wesleyan University baseball collected their third consecutive win with a 4-3 victory over Northwestern (Iowa) College.
The game was the only contest on Tuesday for Indiana Wesleyan during their week long spring break trip to Phoenix, Arizona. Northwestern is receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll.
Dollens' RBI in the sixth would eventually be the game-winner and is the second straight game-winner for Dollens in as many games. At the time, Dollens' RBI gave the Wildcats a 4-1 advantage.
Sophomore starting pitcher gave up two runs in the seventh inning and Northwestern had runners on first and third with two outs. The no. 3 hitter in the lineup for Northwestern failed to come through for the Red Raiders as Lewis induced a fly ball to right field to secure the IWU win.
Lewis pitched a 7-hit complete game to earn the victory on the mound. He struck out three and allowed two earned runs.
Senior Derek Freds finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Senior Kyle Beachy was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the diamond on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. ET in Phoenix, Arizona. IWU will battle NCAA DII opponent Bemidji State (Minn.) University.
