MOBILE, Ala. -- Xavier (La.) University defeated Indiana Wesleyan University by a 6-3 margin on Tuesday morning at the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship first round in Mobile, Alabama.
The Wildcats' season comes to a close with a 21-4 record and the program's 18th consecutive Mid-Central College Conference championship with an 8-0 mark.
On Tuesday, Indiana Wesleyan was led by junior Caitlin McGuire who secured two of the three IWU points.
McGuire helped the Wildcats to a 2-1 lead after doubles play as she teamed with senior Courtney Kooyers to win 8-3 in No. 3-doubles. The freshman team of Lauren Wilson and Andrea Meyering also earned a point in No. 2-doubles with a victory of 8-2.
Juniors Eva Delk and Lisa Massey lost No. 1-doubles 8-0.
McGuire finished her fine day in No. 6-singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Her match win was the only one the Wildcats would receive in singles action.
Massey lost 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1-singles, Meyering dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision in No. 2-singles, Delk fell 6-4, 6-3 in No. 3-singles, Wilson was defeated 6-1, 6-2 in No. 4-singles and Kooyers suffered a 6-1, 6-3 defeat in No. 5-singles.
The NAIA National Championship appearance for Indiana Wesleyan was the 11th straight for the Wildcats.
