MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University baseball continued its march through the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament with a 9-3 victory over No. 4-seed Marian (Ind.) University to finish a perfect 2-0 on Monday at Wildcat Field.
No. 6-seed Indiana Wesleyan will play either No. 3-seed Bethel (Ind.) College or No. 5-seed Huntington (Ind.) University at 12 p.m. noon on Tuesday. The winner of that game will play in the MCC Tournament championship.
For the second straight game on Monday the Wildcats received strong starting pitcher. Jeremy Worrell allowed three runs -- one earned -- over six innings to earn the victory. He walked one and struck out four. Ryne Brown pitched three scoreless innings of relief to collect the save.
Marian scored a single run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score 3-3. But IWU answered in a big way with five runs on seven hits to capture an 8-3 advantage.
Rightfielder Derek Freds and second baseman Brice Davis each totaled three hits. Freds doubled and scored twice while Davis ended with three RBIs.
