HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University dropped a baseball doubleheader on the road Thursday night at Huntington (Ind.) University in Mid-Central College Conference action.
Huntington won game one by a 5-2 score and finished the sweep with a 10-1 victory in the night cap.
In the opener, Indiana Wesleyan was the first to dent the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third inning. IWU increased the lead to 2-0 with another single run in the fifth.
But Huntington used a three run fifth inning to quickly take the lead. HU added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth for the 5-2 victory.
Starting pitcher Tim Zeigler took the loss as he allowed five runs on nine hits in 5-1/3 innings.
Centerfielder Quinn Nofziger hit a sacrifice fly to collect one RBI and leftfielder TJ Fletcher finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Third baseman Jonathan Bastian was the lone Wildcat with a multi-hit game as he was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In the finale, the Foresters plated four runs in the first inning and were never threatened.
Rightfielder Derek Freds hit 2-for-3 with a RBI while Nofziger stole a base and added a sacrifice hit. First baseman Kyle Beachy ended the night 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Indiana Wesleyan falls to 14-31 this season and 4-12 in the MCC while Huntington ups their record to 19-17 and 10-8 in conference action.
The two teams will reconvene at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 for a doubleheader at Wildcat Field.
