WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan traveled north to Winona Lake, Indiana on Saturday afternoon and came away with a doubleheader split at Grace (Ind.) College.
Indiana Wesleyan won the first game 9-3 but lost 5-1 in the final game. IWU took three out of four games this season against Grace following two wins at Wildcat Field on Thursday night.
The Wildcats had little trouble in the first game courtesy of a six run first inning. IWU built the lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning before the Lancers scored their first run in the bottom of the inning. The Wildcats scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings while the Lancers added two in the fifth.
Leftfielder TJ Fletcher remained white hot on the week with another stellar performance on Saturday. In game one, Fletcher was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs, one RBI and a stolen base.
Centerfielder Quinn Nofziger hit 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base while first baseman Kyle Beachy finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Shortstop Ben Zachary had a productive game with a 2-for-2 performance. He walked, had a sacrifice, an RBI and two runs scored.
Starting pitcher Tim Zeigler was the winner as he pitched five innings. He allowed three runs on four hits while walking four and striking out four. Mike Lymberopolous closed the game with a scoreless two innings of relief.
The Wildcats never led in game two but tied the score 1-1 in the third following a Lancer run in the first inning. The Lancers scored the winning run in the fifth inning before adding three insurance runs in the sixth.
Fletcher was 3-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base to finish the week hitting .611 with seven stolen bases.
Starting pitcher Sam Lewis pitched well but was credited with the loss. He gave up two runs on five hits in five innings. Lewis walked three and struck out two.
Indiana Wesleyan now stands 14-27 this season with a 4-10 Mid-Central College Conference record. Grace is 13-25 and 5-17 in the MCC.
The Wildcats will next play at Indiana Tech on Tuesday, April 20 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. First pitch is scheduled at 4 p.m.
