FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis (Ind.) swept the Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team on Saturday afternoon in a Mid-Central College Conference doubleheader in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Saint Francis won by scores of 10-9 and 8-5.
In the first game, Indiana Wesleyan built an 8-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. But Saint Francis scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win coming from behind 10-9.
Leftfielder TJ Fletcher, centerfielder Quinn Nofziger, first baseman Kyle Beachy, shortstop Ben Zachary, second baseman Derek Freds and right fielder CJ Sandmann all rapped out two hits apiece as Indiana Wesleyan outhit Saint Francis 14-11 in the game.
Freds cracked a home run and had three RBIs while Zachary and designated hitter Peter Engle each added two RBIs. Nofziger and Fletcher stole two bases each.
In game two, Indiana Wesleyan scored twice in the first, but Saint Francis quickly took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the inning. USF added three in the second and one more in the third for an 8-2 lead. IWU scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth but could not get any closer.
Third baseman Brice Davis was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Nofziger and Fletcher replicated game one with two stolen bases apiece.
Relief pitcher Ryne Brown was stellar out of the bullpen. Brown allowed one hit and no walks while striking out three in 3-2/3 innings of work.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the field on Tuesday, April 13 with a nine inning, non-conference home game against Taylor (Ind.) University. The game will be Grant County Little League Night. All little leaguers that attend will be able to run the bases and get autographs from the players.
