MARION, Ind. -- Marian (Ind.) University finished Thursday's baseball doubleheader at Indiana Wesleyan University with a pair of wins.
The Knights won the two Mid-Central College Conference games by scores of 10-8 and 7-0 at Wildcat Field.
In the opener, Indiana Wesleyan held leads of 2-0, 5-2 and 8-6. IWU held the 8-6 lead through four innings but Marian would score single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the score 8-8. Marian plated two runs in the seventh and final inning for the 10-8 victory.
Offenses were on for both teams as the Knights out-hit the Wildcats 16-15 in the game. IWU sophomore catcher Alex Ridlen was responsible for four of those hits in four at bats. Junior first baseman Kyle Beachy was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI.
Senior shortstop Ben Zachary, junior second baseman Derek Freds and sophomore third baseman Brice Davis each finished with a pair of singles. Sophomore centerfielder CJ Sandmann scored twice and had a stolen base while sophomore courtesy runner Tim Zeigler scored two runs.
Marian (9-13, 2-2 MCC) quickly scored two runs in the first inning of game two to cruise to the victory. MU added three more in the second inning and single runs in the third and fourth to account for all the scoring in the 7-0 contest.
Ridlen finished his hot hitting on Thursday with a 2-for-3 performance in the second game.
Freshman Mike Lymberopolous threw well out of the Wildcat bullpen. In relief of starting pitcher Jordan Vannoy, Lymberopolous allowed two runs - one earned - on three hits in 4-1/3 innings pitched. Freshman Steven Thrasher pitched a scoreless seventh inning as the IWU bullpen pitched well in the nightcap.
Indiana Wesleyan (10-20, 0-4 MCC) and Marian will continue their series on Saturday, April 3. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 3 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
