LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Indiana Wesleyan University baseball won their second straight game with a 7-3 victory over Walsh (Ohio) University on Friday afternoon at the Warner Tournament in Lake Wales, Florida.
Indiana Wesleyan (4-6) scored all seven runs in a three inning stretch to overcome an early 2-0 deficit. Walsh ran up the early 2-0 lead in the third inning off IWU senior starting pitcher Jordan Vannoy. But Indiana Wesleyan scored two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and the final two in the sixth to back up a solid pitching performance from Vannoy.
Vannoy earned the win with five innings of work. He allowed three earned runs on nine hits and just one walk with two strikeouts. Freshmen Michael Caley and Quinn Nofziger each pitched one inning of relief and did not allow a run.
Sophomore catcher Alex Ridlen collected the big hit for the Wildcats in the fifth inning. His two run single gave the Wildcats the lead for good. He was 1-for-2 at the plate overall with a walk.
Nofziger and senior second baseman Derek Freds each crossed the plate twice on the day in the winning effort. Senior TJ Fletcher was 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan will play one more game today with an 8 p.m. start against host Warner (Fla.) University.
