Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Despite giving up the most points in regulation time since the 2006-07 season, the No. 19-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team ran its win streak to seven with a 92-86 victory at Bethel (Ind.) College in Mishawaka, Indiana.
The last time Indiana Wesleyan allowed a team to score more points in 40 minutes was in the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament championship in a 93-83 defeat to Huntington (Ind.) University on February 27, 2007.
But the Wildcats were just a bit more explosive on the offensive end on Saturday in a game riddled by foul trouble for both teams. A total of 54 fouls were called and the teams combined for 69 free throw attempts. Bethel finished the game with two players fouling out while Indiana Wesleyan had five players with four fouls apiece.
And in a game where so many free throws were awarded, the game ultimately came down to who could cash in. Indiana Wesleyan connected on 28-of-37 (75.7-percent) while Bethel finished at 20-of-32 (62.5-percent).
The Wildcats' offense was spread around on Saturday afternoon as five players earned double digit points, led by Derrick Troyer with 20. The junior point guard also pulled down six boards and dished out four assists.
Senior forward Will Hubertz added 19 in the win as he came up big in the second half. Hubertz scored 17 of his points in the final 20 minutes, including all five of his 3-pointers. Sophomore forward Patrick Hopkins contributed an all around performance with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Off the IWU bench, freshman Jordan Weidner continues to shine. Even with just four field goal attempts the guard put up 14 points as he was able to get to the foul line on a consistent basis, hitting on 9-of-12 attempts. Sophomore guard George Jones IV was the fifth Wildcat in double figures with 11 on 5-of-9 shooting.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 50.9-percent (28 of 55) as a team and 47.1-percent (8 of 17) from 3-point range, including 85.7-percent (6 of 7) from deep in the second half.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 10-3 this season and 3-0 in the MCC. Bethel drops to 8-4 and 0-3 in conference.
The pre-Christmas portion of the conference slate is finished as Indiana Wesleyan will return to non-conference games until January. Indiana Wesleyan's next game will be at home in Luckey Arena on Friday, December 17 against Notre Dame (Ohio) College. Tip-off will be at 4 p.m.
