Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball held a 17 point second half lead but had to hold on late to escape with an 83-79 victory over Shawnee State (Ohio) University in the Cedarville Classic.
The Wildcats used a balanced offensive attack on Saturday as five players scored in double figures.
Junior guard Derrick Troyer was the leading scorer for Indiana Wesleyan with 17 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting performance. Freshman guard Jordan Weidner was nearly as good off the Indiana Wesleyan bench with 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Weidner hit 7-of-8 free throws and he dished out three assists, had two steals and collected a pair of rebounds.
Sophomore guard Aaron Martin chipped in with 14 points and senior forward Will Hubertz added 10. Sophomore forward Patrick Hopkins also scored 10 and pulled down a team-best eight boards.
The Wildcats shot 53.7-percent (29 of 54) for the game and 41.2-percent (7 of17) from beyond the arc. The Bears also shot well for the game at 46.9-percent (30 of 64) but were limited to just 28.6-percent (6 of 21) from 3-point range.
Indiana Wesleyan also won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding Shawnee State 36-29.
No. 24-ranked Indiana Wesleyan finishes the weekend with two wins as IWU defeated host and No. 14-ranked Cedarville (Ohio) University by a 70-65 margin on Friday night. Overall, Indiana Wesleyan improves to 5-3 while Shawnee State tumbles to 1-3.
Indiana Wesleyan opens Mid-Central College Conference play their next time out at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23 in Luckey Arena against Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) University.
