Saturday's victory also pushed the Indiana Wesleyan win streak to 10 in a row. The last time Indiana Wesleyan won 10 straight was the start of the 2006-07 season, a team that finished 30-5 and advanced to the NAIA Elite Eight.
But first Indiana Wesleyan had to battle Saint Francis, a team that IWU had won eight straight games against coming in. Their last lost to the Cougars came on February 7, 2006.
Saint Francis would open the contest in control and held a 14-8 advantage in the early minutes of the game.
After Indiana Wesleyan quickly responded and tied the game at 21-21 and 10:22 on the clock, a critical moment happened in the contest. Reigning NAIA Division II National Player of the Week, IWU senior center Zach Coverstone, was sent to the bench with his second foul. Coverstone did not see any more action during the first half.
Wildcat senior forward Josh Williams hit a field goal in the paint on the next possession to give IWU its first lead of the game and the Wildcats would never trail the rest of the afternoon. When the dust settled eight minutes later with Coverstone on the bench, the Wildcats held a 50-30 advantage courtesy of a 27-9 run. During the stretch, IWU senior guard Spencer Harris erupted for 10 of his game-high 24 points.
Indiana Wesleyan (15-3, 4-1, MCC) led at halftime 54-34 as IWU shot a blistering 73.3-percent (22 of 30) from the floor and 66.7-percent (6 of 9) from 3-point range.
Saint Francis quickly made the game interesting as the Cougars opened the second half with the first eight points to cut the deficit to 12 points at 54-42. But with the score 56-44, Indiana Wesleyan scored eight unanswered points in a minute and a half to quickly up the advantage to 20 points at 64-44.
A minute later Saint Francis would score on back-to-back possessions to cut the deficit to 15 points (66-51). But Indiana Wesleyan reeled off a 12-3 run to lift IWU to their largest lead of the contest at 78-54 as 11:12 still remained.
The Cougars clung to life courtesy of a 12-3 run of their own to once again trail by 15 (81-66) with 8:22 to play. But any chance of a comeback was squelched as the Wildcats scored eight straight points to put the game firmly out of reach with 4:35 on the clock.
Despite only gaining eight points in 15 minutes of play from Coverstone, the Wildcats' leading scorer with 18.9 points per game, Indiana Wesleyan put up a season-best 104 points as several players stepped up in big ways.
Harris entered the afternoon averaging 8.2 points but scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting while hitting on 10-of-16 from the foul line.
