MISHAWAKA, Ind. (Box 1, Box 2) -- Bethel (Ind.) College earned a doubleheader sweep over Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in Mid-Central College Conference baseball action at Mishawaka, Indiana.
Bethel opened the day with a 4-2 victory and ended the afternoon with a 12-2 win.
Indiana Wesleyan (13-23, 4-6 MCC) scored first in the opening game with a run in the first inning, but Bethel took the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs. Bethel scored again in the second for a 3-1 advantage and IWU cut the deficit to one with a run in the third. Bethel added an insurance run in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Jonathan Bastian was handed the loss on the mound for the Wildcats. He allowed four runs - two earned - on seven hits in five innings of work.
Centerfielder Kory Hollensteiner was 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks. He scored once and added a stolen base. Second baseman Ben Zachary ended 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Catcher Alex Ridlen was the lone Wildcat with multiple hits in the game as he was 2-for-4.
The two teams combined for 12 hits. There were no extra base hits in the game as every hit was a single.
The second game ended in five innings as the Pilots won 12-2.
Despite scoring one run in each of the first two innings, Indiana Wesleyan trailed 5-2 after two as Bethel plated five runs in the opening inning. Bethel (14-16, 9-3 MCC) scored once again in the fourth and six in the fifth for the victory.
Leftfielder TJ Fletcher was 2-for-3 at this dish with one run scored. Hollensteiner and Ridlen each collected one hit in the game.
Starting pitcher Jeremy Worrell surrendered seven earned runs in 4-1/3 innings pitched. Worrell was 1-for-2 batting with one run scored.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 as the Wildcats travel to play Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
