SPRING ARBOR, Mich. (Box 1, Box 2) -- Spring Arbor (Mich.) University completed the season sweep of the Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team on Saturday.
The Cougars won 4-2 in the opening contest and 6-3 in the second game to win all four regular season games against the Wildcats.
The first game turned out to be a pitchers duel as each starting pitcher tossed a three-hit complete game. Jeremy Worrell allowed four runs -- one earned -- on three hits. Spring Arbor scored all four runs in the fifth inning, sparked by an errant throw on a fielders choice allowing three unearned runs to cross the plate in the inning.
Indiana Wesleyan (13-27, 4-10 MCC) briefly led in the game with a run in the fourth inning. Following the four run fifth for Spring Arbor, Indiana Wesleyan cut the deficit in half with an additional run in the sixth for a 4-2 game to complete the scoring.
Jeremy Worrell helped himself out at the plate as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple, scoring first baseman Kory Hollensteiner. Hollensteiner ended the game 1-for-3 as well with an RBI double.
In the nightcap, Spring Arbor (20-8, 13-3 MCC) jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage after the first inning. Indiana Wesleyan tied the score with a three run inning of their own in the fourth inning.
The tied score would be short lived as Spring Arbor plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the fifth for the 6-3 victory.
Hollensteiner and shortstop Brice Davis led the Wildcats with two hits apiece. Davis had one RBI while first baseman Kyle Beach went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14 as the Wildcats play Grace (Ind.) College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
