MARION, Ind. (Box 1, Box 2) -- Aquinas (Mich.) College captured a doubleheader sweep over Indiana Wesleyan University in baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
The Wildcats dropped the home opener 5-2 in game one.
Aquinas scored single runs in the second and fourth innings to lead 2-0. Indiana Wesleyan (9-17) responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as the game was tied 2-2.
But Aquinas (6-8) quickly retook the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth to finish the scoring at 5-2.
Left fielder TJ Fletcher totaled two hits in the game as the Wildcats had six overall. Right fielder Derek Freds was 1-for-3 with a RBI while third baseman Ben Zachary and first baseman Kyle Beachy each scored one run.
Jeremy Worrell allowed four runs on six hits in five innings of work. Jake Scholfield pitched two innings of relief and gave up one run on a pair of hits.
A nine run first inning for the Saints in game two was more than enough in an 11-0 victory for the doubleheader sweep.
The Wildcat bullpen pitched well, allowing two runs over 6-1/3 innings. Tim Ziegler pitched 3-1/3 innings and did not give up a hit.
Right fielder Matt Fleissner, catcher Nick Davis and shortstop Jon Bastian each collected a hit for Indiana Wesleyan.
Baseball returns to the diamond at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 as the Wildcats host Marian (Ind.) College in the Mid-Central College Conference opener at Wildcat Field.
