CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Indiana Wesleyan University baseball competes in the Clearwater College Invitational from March 2-7 in Clearwater, Florida.
In their first action of the tournament, the Wildcats lost 6-3 to Notre Dame (Ohio) College.In their second game of the day, Notre Dame earned an 8-6 victory over IWU.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings, but Notre Dame scored four in the top of the fourth. IWU trimmed the lead to 4-3 after five, but Notre Dame added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth for the 6-3 win.
Ben Zachary was 3-for-4 from the plate with a double and two RBIs. TJ Fletcher had a 2-for-4 performance with a run and stolen base.
In the nightcap, Notre Dame led 5-1 after three innings of play. A three run fourth inning for Indiana Wesleyan brought the Wildcats to within one run at 5-4. Notre Dame plated two more in the fifth and one more in the sixth for the eventual 8-6 victory.
Fletcher collected three hits with a double and triple. He scored once, knocked in a run and had a stolen base. Steven Laake, Derek Freds and Alex Ridlen all had two hits apiece.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 2-8 on the season and will play Morningside (Iowa) Collegetomorrow at 8:30 a.m. and Cedarville (Ohio) University at 6 p.m.
