Box Score HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Box Score) -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team reached the 20-win plateau on Tuesday night with an 82-63 victory on the road at Huntington (Ind.) University.
"Tonight was the best team win we had all year," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Greg Tonagel. "Guys stepped up for each other. We shot well, passed well and played good defense."
With the win, Indiana Wesleyan moves into second place in the Mid-Central College Conference, half a game ahead of No. 18-ranked Grace (Ind.) College. Grace was upset by Goshen (Ind.) College 88-75 on Tuesday night.
The No. 9-ranked Wildcats dominated the Foresters on both ends of the court with a total team effort.
Huntington (15-10, 4-7 MCC) entered the contest ranked seventh in NAIA Division II in scoring with 87 points per game, but Indiana Wesleyan held Huntington to 24 points below their average. The 63 points was a season-low for the Foresters.
Offensively, six Wildcats scored nine or more points for a balanced attacked. Junior forward Zach Coverstone tallied a team-high 17 points with six rebounds and senior forward Landon Adler added 12 points, 13 boards and six assists.
Senior guard Antonio Murrell chipped in with 14 points and five assists while a pair of Wildcats off the bench, sophomore forward Will Hubertz and junior Ryan Hetrick, scored 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Senior guard Jon Moon poured in nine. Freshman Derrick Troyer, starting his first collegiate game, dished out a career-high nine assists.
Indiana Wesleyan (20-5, 8-3 MCC) added 26 points off the bench as IWU was able to wear down Huntington in the second half. Indiana Wesleyan outscored Huntington 49-32 in the second period after leading 33-31 at halftime.
"It's so important to have good bench play," said Tonagel. "Hubertz, Hetrick and Williams all came in the game and played big minutes off the bench tonight."
The Wildcats remain on the road for their next game as Indiana Wesleyan will play at Spring Arbor (Mich.) University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 7.
