Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- Freshman guard Aaron Martin dropped 20 points on Trinity Christian (Ill.) College as Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball cruised to an 88-64 victory in Chicago, Illinois.
Martin connected on 6-of-9 from 3-point range and 7-of-12 overall for a team best 20 points. In his last seven games, Martin has averaged 12.5 points and is 22-of-44 shooting (50.0-percent) from deep. His sharp-shooting has helped the Wildcats overcome the loss of Will Hubertz to injury.
Indiana Wesleyan and Trinity Christian (3-7) met on Saturday for the first time since their 2009 NAIA National Championship First Round match in Point Lookout, Missouri. Indiana Wesleyan won that contest 67-61 in a game that was hotly contested.
The Wildcats had no problems though on Saturday and dominated the Trolls in every facet of the game and led 41-22 at halftime. IWU shot 58.5-percent (31 of 53) from the floor and 64.3-percent (9 of 14) from long range while TCC was limited to 39.2-percent (20 of 51) shooting and 21.4-percent (3 of 14) from beyond the arc.
Indiana Wesleyan (8-3) held a large advantage in rebounds for the second straight day as the Wildcats out-rebounded the Trolls 41-23.
Senior center Zach Coverstone added 15 points and nine rebounds in the IWU win while freshman forward Patrick Hopkins contributed 11 points and five boards off the bench. Senior guard Ryan Hetrick was 2-of-3 from 3-point range and finished with 10 points and senior forward Josh Williams pulled off a six point and eight rebound performance.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play University of Northwestern Ohio at home in Luckey Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8.
