Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- An explosive offensive performance led the Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team to a 92-76 victory over No. 15-ranked Siena Heights (Mich.) University in the championship game of the Notre Dame (Ohio) Tournament.
Senior center Zach Coverstone was absolutely dominant for the Wildcats as he was just shy of a triple-double. Coverstone put up game-highs with 27 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. He shot 11-of-16 from the field and blocked a pair of shots.
The victory is the seventh straight for Indiana Wesleyan and the second against a NAIA Division II Top-15 program as IWU defeated No. 2-ranked Bethel (Ind.) College on December 1.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 52.5-percent (31 of 59) in the contest and out-rebounded Siena Heights 41-to-32. Siena Heights entered the game 10th in NAIA Division II as their opponents have been held to 38.3-percent from the field. SHU was also 17th in NAIA Division II in scoring defense at 64.7 points per game.
IWU shot 23-of-29 (79.3-percent) from the free throw line and continued to receive scoring from a number of players as six Wildcats scored nine or more points, including another strong performance by the bench.
Freshman forward Patrick Hopkins and junior forward Will Hubertz each contributed nine points apiece off the Wildcat bench. Hopkins also collected four rebounds and Hubertz dished out four assists.
Senior guard Spencer Harris added 15 points, freshman guard Aaron Martin connected for 13 and senior guard Ryan Hetrick chipped in for 11 points. Martin and Hetrick each tallied three 3-point buckets.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 12-3 following a perfect 7-0 record in December. Siena Heights drops to 13-3.
The Wildcats return to Mid-Central College Conference play next week with their first two games on the road. IWU will travel to Huntington (Ind.) University for their first game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5 in Huntington, Indiana.
