MARION, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis (Ill.) held on to defeat the Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis team on Saturday afternoon by a 5-4 margin at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The two teams split singles competition, but Saint Francis took two out of three matches in double to earn the narrow victory.
Sophomore Micah May and freshman Luke Montgomery earned the lone point for the Wildcats in doubles. The tandem earned an 8-6 victory in No. 3-doubles.
In singles, sophomore Matt Pedersen captured a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory in top singles play. Senior Luke Wright won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, in No. 4 play while Montgomery collected a point in No. 6-singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 3-1 on the season with an unblemished mark of 3-0 in the Mid-Central College Conference.
Next up for the Wildcats is the ITA Tournament on September 18-20 in Cedarville, Ohio.
