STRUTHERS, Ohio -- The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team's season came to a close as the Wildcats finished as the runner-up at the 2008 World Series in Struthers, Ohio.
Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University avenged their only loss of the tournament in the championship game rematch with Indiana Wesleyan. The Cougars captured the title with an 8-3 victory over the Wildcats.
Junior Jake Scholfield was the pitcher of record for Indiana Wesleyan as he allowed five runs on three hits in 1-2/3 innings as the starter.
Mount Vernon Nazarene did their damage in a six run second inning, which chased Scholfield from the game. Indiana Wesleyan cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the third, but Mount Vernon Nazarene quickly pushed their advantage back to six runs with two runs in the fourth for an 8-2 lead.
Indiana Wesleyan added the final run in the seventh inning as the Wildcats outhit the Cougars 9-8.
Sophomore Ben Zachary amassed a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Senior catcher Ryan Moore was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
A trio of Wildcats received national honors from the NCCAA following the tournament. Senior pitcher Brandon Moore, senior catcher Ryan Moore and senior first baseman Nick Millspaugh were all named to the NCCAA All-Tournament team.
Brandon Moore was also honored as a member of the NCCAA All-American Team en route to being recognized as the NCCAA Pitcher of the Year.
Indiana Wesleyan's season concludes with a 32-24 record. Mount Vernon Nazarene's championship run ends with a 39-21 tally.
