STRUTHERS, Ohio -- Indiana Wesley University is one of three teams still competing in the NCCAA Baseball World Series following a 7-3 victory over No. 2-seed and previously unbeaten Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University on Friday.
Indiana Wesleyan battles top-seed Malone (Ohio) College at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to the championship game at 4 p.m. against Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Mount Vernon Nazarene jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead over the Wildcats in the first inning of Friday's game. But IWU tied the score in the third inning and captured a 3-2 advantage in the next inning. Indiana Wesleyan padded their lead with a four run fourth inning as IWU led 7-2. Mount Vernon added one run in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Senior Kyle Mock went 5-1/3 inning to collect the victory on the mound for the Wildcats. He allowed three runs on eight hits. Senior Tim Pauley pitched the final 1-2/3 innings and did not allow a base runner to earn the save.
Senior first baseman Nick Millspaugh was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Junior third baseman Brandon Beachy was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 31-23 this season while Mount Vernon Nazarene is now 38-21.
