STRUTHERS, Ohio -- Top seed Malone (Ohio) College defeated the Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team by a 13-6 margin in day two of the NCCAA World Series in Struthers, Ohio. The Wildcats came back later in the day and defeated Bethel (Ind.) College 10-7 to advance to the final four teams in the tournament.
Malone and Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University are now the two unbeaten teams left in the 10-team, double-elimination tournament. Malone improves to 41-14 this season.
Indiana Wesleyan fell to the loser's bracket and battled Bethel in an elimination game as six teams remained. Indiana Wesleyan took three of four games this season against the Pilots.
The Wildcats won their fourth game of the season against the Pilots by a 10-7 margin.
Matt Burthay was the winning pitcher as seniors Nick Millspaugh and Ryan Moore led the offensive charge. Millspaugh had a pair of doubles with three RBIs while Moore singled and tripled as he knocked in two run.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 30-23 this year and will battled Chowan (N.C.) College at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23 in an elimination game as four teams remain. Indiana Wesleyan and Chowan each have a loss while Malone and Mount Vernon Nazarene have yet to lose.
