CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The National Christian College Athletic Association Baseball Midwest Regional Final will go to the brink as Indiana Wesleyan University and Cedarville (Ohio) University split a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in Cedarville, Ohio.
The deciding game three will be played at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 16 at Cedarville with the winner securing a spot in the NCCAA World Series which will be held next week in Strothers, Ohio.
Senior pitcher Brandon Moore struck out 13 batters and junior center fielder Kory Hollensteiner connected on three parts of a cycle as Indiana Wesleyan defeated Cedarville (Ohio) University 6-1 in the first game.
Moore allowed one run on four hits as he went the distance to pick up the victory. He did not walk a batter as he improves to 9-3 on the season. The right hander allowed the lone Cedarville run to score in the final inning as IWU led 6-0.
Hollensteiner hit a single, double and a triple to earn the only multi-hit game for the Wildcats. He scored twice, knocked in two and stole a base as he created havoc on the bases against the host Yellow Jackets.
Senior first baseman Nick Millspaugh and senior right fielder Matt Burthay were each 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan out-hit Cedarville 8-4 in the contest.
Cedarville sealed a split in the opening day of the regional final with a 6-3 win. The Yellow Jackets out-hit the visiting Wildcats by a 13-2 margin.
Junior Josh Worrell was the losing pitcher for Indiana Wesleyan as he surrendered three run on seven hits in five innings. He struck out five batters as he falls to 4-4 on the season.
Millspaugh and senior catcher Ryan Moore collected the lone hits for the Wildcats. Despite only two hits for IWU, the Wildcats managed 12 walks in the contest. Senior left fielder Shay Harden had no official at bat as he amassed four walks.
Indiana Wesleyan is 27-22 on the season and Cedarville now stands at 22-30.
