MARION, Ind. -- Senior starting pitchers Brandon Moore and Kyle Mock led Indiana Wesleyan University in a doubleheader sweep of Bethel (Ind.) College on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Sports Complex.
The 4-1 and 3-2 victories over the Pilots are the latest wins by the Wildcats in a stretch of 16 wins in 20 games. Overall, the Wildcats are 19-11 and 12-4 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Bethel falls to 14-13 overall and 9-5 in conference action.
In the opening game, IWU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after an inning of play. That would be all the support that Moore would need as he pitched a complete game. He allowed one run on four hits while striking out 10.
Senior catcher Ryan Moore was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
Indiana Wesleyan once again captured an early lead in the nightcap. IWU scored single runs in the first two innings to gain a 2-0 advantage. Bethel would tie the score 2-2 in the fourth inning, but the Wildcats responded in the fifth with a run to obtain a 3-2 lead.
Bethel threatened in the final inning as the Pilots had the tying run on second with just one out. But junior Brandon Beachy left the runner stranded as he collected the save for the 3-2 victory.
Mock pitched 5-1/3 innings before handing the ball over to the bullpen. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits and one walk.
Wildcat designated hitter Nick Millspaugh finished the contest 2-for-3 with one run batted in. Right fielder Matt Burthay was 1-for-3 with a RBI double.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the diamond at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 as the Wildcats travel to play county foe Taylor (Ind.) University in Upland, Indiana.
