Marion, IN (April 17, 2008) ? The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team lost both games of their doubleheader against Mid-Central College Conference opponent Huntington University Thursday.
The Wildcats (23-17, 16-10) lost the first game in extra innings 3-1, before being shutout 10-0 in five innings in the second game.
The first game was a pitcher's duel as the game was tied 1-1 after seven innings. IWU senior pitcher Brandon Moore struck out 11 Forresters before suffering the loss.
The Wildcats rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the sixth inning as pinch runner Dan Wagley stole home to tie the game at 1-1. In extra innings, IWU could not surmount a comeback after Huntington hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth.
Huntington's Michael Dalton earned the win, while IWU's Brandon Moore received the loss.
IWU failed to score in the second game as they were defeated 10-0. The Wildcats' best chance to score came in the bottom of the fifth as junior Brandon Beachy doubled to left-centerfield to lead off the inning.
Beachy advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out, but the next two Wildcat batters struck out and grounded out to end the game.
Huntington's Drew Taylor recorded the win in the second game, while IWU's Kyle Mock was given the loss.
The Wildcats were led offensively by freshman Kyle Beachy, who had three hits in four at-bats including one double.
The Wildcats continue conference play Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. on the road at Huntington University.
