CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team finished their Spring Break trip to Clearwater, Florida with a pair of 11-0 victories.
Each game was shortened to five innings due to mercy rules.
Indiana Wesleyan defeated Trinity International (Ill.) University in the opening game of the day behind a combined no-hitter from senior Tim Pauley and junior Josh Worrell. Pauley earned the victory as he pitched four innings with four strikeouts. Worrell pitched one inning in relief to preserve the no-hit shutout.
Senior outfielder Shay Harden paced the Wildcat attack with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Harden hit two triples, scored two runs and knocked in four others. Senior outfielder Matt Burthay also added two hits in two plate appearances. He scored twice and had one RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan completed the Spring Break trip with another all-around solid performance against Northwestern (Iowa) College.
Senior Brandon Moore went the distance on the mound. He allowed two hits while striking out six batters to earn the five-inning shutout.
Freshman Derek Freds had a huge day at the plate. Freds blasted a double and a 3-run homerun. Sophomore Ben Zachary added a solo homerun and collected 3 RBIs. Senior Jeff Pierce also earned a pair of hits. Pierce knocked in three runs and scored two others.
Indiana Wesleyan concludes their trip with a 6-3 record in Florida. After the successful week, the Wildcats evened their overall record to 7-7.
IWU returns to the diamond at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 as the Wildcats travel to play Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois.
