MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team earned their eighth straight victory with a doubleheader sweep over Grace (Ind.) College on Monday afternoon in Marion.
After opening the season at 3-7, the Wildcats completed their Spring Break trip in Florida with four consecutive victories. Since Florida, IWU has reeled off four straight conference wins against Grace (1-11, 0-4 MCC).
In the opener, both teams scored two runs in the first inning. The Wildcats plated two more in the second inning and shut down the Lancer attack the rest of the way en route to the 7-2 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan senior left fielder Shay Harden ended the game 2-for-4 with a run, stolen base and three runs batted in. Junior center fielder Kory Hollensteiner was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Junior Joshua Worrell went the distance on the mound to pick up his first victory of the year. He struck out eight while allowing two runs on six hits.
Indiana Wesleyan (11-7, 4-0 MCC) cruised in the nightcap to a 15-0, five inning contest.
Wildcat sophomore third baseman Ben Zachary had a big game from the plate with a 3-for-4 performance. Zachary rapped a double and drove in five RBIs. Senior shortstop Jeff Pierce, Hollensteiner, Harden and senior designated hitter Nicholas Millspaugh all collected two hits.
Senior Matt Burthay earned the victory with four innings of shutout ball. He gave up two hits while striking out four.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the diamond at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 at home against Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
