Box Score OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- In the fourth meeting of the season the Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team overcame Spring Arbor (Mich.) University 74-61 to capture the 2008 NCCAA national championship in Oakland City, Indiana.
The Wildcats last won the NCCAA championship in 1995, when IWU won the tournament at home in Marion, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan sophomore center Zach Coverstone was named tournament MVP after recording double-doubles in all three games. He finished the championship game with 14 points and 10 rebounds en route to averaging 21.0 points and 11.7 rebounds during the championship run.
Sophomore guard Spencer Harris delivered a big second half for the Wildcats. Harris scored 16 of his team-high 20 points in the second stanza.
Sophomore guard Ryan Hetrick added 16 points and junior guard Antonio Murrell chipped in with 14 points for Indiana Wesleyan. Murrell was named to the NCCAA All-Tournament team along with Coverstone.
Indiana Wesleyan?s victory is the fourth consecutive season that the NCCAA champion came from the Mid-Central College Conference. Spring Arbor earned back-to-back championships in 2005 and 2006 and Bethel (Ind.) College won in 2007.
The Wildcats finish the season with a 23-11 record while the Cougars fall to 19-14. IWU and Spring Arbor end their season series with both teams winning two games.
