Marion, IN (March 20, 2008) ? The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team defeated Grace College 7-4 and 4-3 in the Wildcats? Mid-Central College Conference opener.
The Wildcats (9-7, 2-0) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first game?s opening inning. IWU built upon their lead with two runs in the third inning and a run in the fourth inning, before giving up four unearned runs in the fifth inning to Grace. The Wildcats scored their final run in the sixth inning for the final score of 7-4.
IWU senior Brandon Moore recorded the win in the first game of the doubleheader, while striking out 12 Lancers.
IWU surrendered the first run of the second game in the third inning as Grace went up 1-0, but the Wildcats scored two runs of their own to take the lead. The Wildcats tacked on another run in the fourth inning for a 3-1 lead. Grace scored a run in both the fifth and seventh inning though to tie the score heading into the bottom of the seventh.
IWU senior catcher Ryan Moore secured the Wildcat victory as he drove home the winning running with a hit to left-center field with runners on first and third.
Senior Tim Pauley recorded the win in the second game of the doubleheader and junior Brandon Beachy got the save.
The Wildcats continue play Saturday, March 22, as they travel to Grace College to play at 1:00 p.m.
