Box Score MARION, Ind. -- A 26-8 run to open the game led the Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team to a convincing 94-61 victory over visiting University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday night in Luckey Arena.
After Saint Francis scored the game?s opening basket, the Wildcats answered with 26 of the next 32 points to capture a commanding 26-8 lead.
Indiana Wesleyan (19-9, 8-7 MCC) pushed their lead to 20 points at 34-14 with four minutes 40 seconds to play in the opening stanza. IWU earned their largest lead in the first half of 25 points (45-20) as 49 seconds remained on the clock.
The Wildcats entered the break with a 47-24 advantage.
Saint Francis (14-16, 5-11) never threatened in the second half of play as Indiana Wesleyan dominated play on both ends of the floor. The Wildcats built their largest lead of the game of 37 points at 84-47.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 54.7-percent (29 of 53) from the floor and 78.9-percent (30 of 38) from the free throw line. On the defensive side, the Wildcats forced the Cougars into 35.0-percent (21 of 60) shooting. USF only scored seven field goals in the opening period.
IWU out-rebounded the visiting Cougars 39-31.
Junior Jon Moon led the Wildcats with 20 points on 12-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe. He also had seven rebounds. Sophomore center Zach Coverstone recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Mike Steinau, who scored 37 points in the team?s first meeting, recorded 15 points. He only had four at the half.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action in the regular season finale as the Wildcats host Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 23 in Luckey Arena.
