Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A stout defensive effort by the Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team vaulted the Wildcats to a 68-59 victory over Cornerstone (Mich.) University in the MCC/WHAC Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Golden Eagles entered the game averaging 97 points per game, but the Wildcat defense held the host team to 38 points below their season average as Cornerstone shot 41.8-percent (23 of 55) from the floor.
The Wildcats built an early 16-4 lead and never trailed again. By halftime, IWU led 35-23 and was never seriously threatened again.
No. 14-ranked Indiana Wesleyan was once again led by their post players, junior forward Zach Coverstone and senior forward Landon Adler. Coverstone led all scorers with 18 points (9 of 12 shooting) while Adler collected a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
IWU junior guard Spencer Harris was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 11 points.
As a team, Indiana Wesleyan shot 52.0-percent (26 of 50) from the floor.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 6-0 this season while Cornerstone, who received votes in the preseason poll, marks one up in the loss column for the first time this season and now stands at 5-1.
The Wildcats return to the court at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, as IWU play No. 12-ranked Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
