Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Spring Arbor (Mich.) University was held to 32.0-percent shooting as the Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team captured their fourth consecutive victory with a 64-50 win on Wednesday night in Luckey Arena.
Indiana Wesleyan (17-6, 6-4 MCC) held the Cougars to just 16-of-50 shooting for the game and 4-of-14 from beyond the arc. The stingy Wildcat defense did not allow a Spring Arbor player to score in double figures.
Spring Arbor opened the contest with the first four points and held the lead until a basket by sophomore guard Spencer Harris gave the Wildcats a 7-6 advantage with 13 minutes 44 seconds in the half. Harris ended the evening with 14 points.
The Harris basket unleashed a 16-4 blitz by the Wildcats as IWU built a 21-10 lead.
Spring Arbor (13-11, 5-5) closed the gap to six points, but junior guard Jon Moon highlighted an eight point run with a pair of 3-pointers to give the Wildcats their largest lead of the half at 29-15. A trey from the Cougars completed the first half scoring as Indiana Wesleyan led 29-18 at intermission.
Spring Arbor made one last stand against Indiana Wesleyan as the Cougars rattled off the first four points of the second half to cut the Wildcat lead to seven points. IWU promptly ignited a 9-2 run to earn a 38-24 advantage with 15:43 to play. The Cougars never threatened again.
Indiana Wesleyan increased the lead to 20 points at 49-29 with 12:19 on the clock. The Wildcats would gain their largest lead at 22 points on four occasions, with the final one coming at 62-40 and 4:39 remaining.
Moon led all scorers with 16 points and was 4-of-8 from 3-point land. Junior guard Antonio Murrell contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Sophomore center Zach Coverstone blocked five Cougar shots.
The Wildcats shot 48.1-percent (25 of 52) for the game and only committed nine turnovers.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, as the Wildcats travel to play Grace (Ind.) College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
