Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Junior guard Jon Moon scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team to its third straight conference win with a 79-64 victory over visiting Goshen (Ind.) College.
Moon was 11-of-19 from the floor and 4-of-7 from 3-point land. He also pulled down a game best seven rebounds.
The three consecutive Mid-Central College Conference victories puts the Wildcats over .500 in the conference for the first time this season as IWU improves to 5-4.
Indiana Wesleyan and Goshen battled early as the Maple Leafs led 15-14. The Wildcats scored the next nine points in the contest to grab a 23-15 advantage with just under eight minutes to play in the half.
Goshen (16-7, 4-5 MCC) responded with a 12-3 spurt which put them back in the lead at 27-26. But the Wildcats finished the first half on a 12-4 run to streak into intermission with a 38-31 lead.
Indiana Wesleyan (16-6) left no doubt in the second half of action as the Wildcats sprinted out of halftime by scoring 23 of the first 31 points to capture a commanding 61-39 advantage. Goshen never recovered and did not get any closer than the 15 point deficit at the end of the game.
Sophomore center Zach Coverstone joined Moon with a big game. Coverstone tallied 18 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Josh Williams added eight points and six rebounds off the bench as 10 different Wildcats scored in the game.
Indiana Wesleyan was impressive on the offensive side of the floor as the Wildcats shot 57.7-percent (30 of 52) from the field. IWU was 14-of-16 (87.5-percent) from the free throw line.
The Wildcats defense held Goshen to 41.5-percent (22 of 53) shooting while out-rebounding the visitors 32 to 26. Maple Leaf guard Erick McCollum, the NAIA Division II third leading scorer with 24.9 points per game, was held to just 11 points on 2-of-8 shooting. McCollum scored 34 points against IWU in their previous meeting on December 1, 2007.
Indiana Wesleyan will look to win their fourth consecutive MCC contest at 7 p.m. on January 30, as the Wildcats host Spring Arbor (Mich.) University in Luckey Arena.
