Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team overcame a 20 point deficit with a strong second half to end their three-game losing streak with a 75-71 overtime win on the road at Indiana University-South Bend on Saturday afternoon.
IU-South Bend (7-5) built their advantage to 20 points on two different occasions in the first half. Indiana Wesleyan was able to cut that lead to 15 points by halftime as the Titans led 38-23 at the break.
The Titans ended the first half shooting 8-of-12 from beyond the arc.
The Wildcats (9-4) used a strong defensive effort in the second half to chip away at the Titans? lead. IWU limited IU-South Bend to only 19 second half shots as the Wildcats outscored the host 40-25 in the second half. Sophomore Spencer Harris forced the extra session with a game-tying three pointer with under 15 seconds to play in regulation. Harris ended the day with 21 points.
Indiana Wesleyan did not let up in overtime and outscored IU-South Bend 12-8 to earn the 75-71 victory. IWU ends a three game losing streak while halting IU-South Bend?s four game win streak.
Free throws were key for the Wildcats down the stretch. Leading Indiana Wesleyan in that department was junior Antonio Murrell who was 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. Murrell finished with a team-high 23 points and four assists.
Junior Ian McCulla received his first start of the season and responded with 10 points. Sophomores Zach Coverstone and Josh Williams each added eight points in the win.
Three Wildcats led the team in rebounding as senior Phil Brackman, Coverstone and Murrell all tallied seven boards.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 17, as the Wildcats travel to play Indiana University-East.
