Wildcats Coast to Victory

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team earned a convincing 72-51 victory over Trinity International (Ill.) University on Tuesday night in Luckey Arena.

 
Trinity International captured an early 5-0 lead just two minutes into the contest before the Wildcats reeled off the next nine points to take a 9-5 lead. Indiana Wesleyan would lead the rest of the game.
 
The Wildcats built their lead up to 10 points at 19-9 midway through the first half. IWU then raced to an 11-3 run to assemble their largest lead of the half, 30-12. Indiana Wesleyan eventually carried a 16 point lead into the locker rooms as the Wildcats led 37-21.
 
Indiana Wesleyan pushed their lead to 43-23 in the early stages of the second half. But a 16-5 run by the Trojans temporarily cut the Wildcat lead to single digits at 50-41. On IWU?s next possession, sophomore Zach Coverstone scored in the paint to give the Wildcats an 11 point lead at 52-41. Indiana Wesleyan would not relinquish their double digit lead the rest of the game.
 
The Wildcats gained their largest advantage on the final basket of the game as freshman Sebastian Weber scored down low to hand Indiana Wesleyan a 21 point win at 72-51.
 
Sophomore Spencer Harris led all scorers with 15 points. Coverstone added 14 points and nine rebounds while junior Antonio Murrell supplied 14 points and four assists.
 
Indiana Wesleyan shot 49.2-percent (30 of 61) from the field and 58.3-percent (7 of 12) from beyond the three-point line. The Wildcat defense stymied the Trojans and forced them into 34.5-percent (19 of 55) shooting. Trinity International also committed 24 turnovers in the game.
 
IWU extends their win streak to six games as the Wildcats improve to 7-1. Trinity International?s two-game win streak is snapped as the Trojans fall to 2-6 on the season.
 

Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, as the Wildcats travel to play Siena Heights (Mich.) University in Adrian, Michigan.
