Box Score CANTON, Ohio -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women?s basketball team used a staunch defensive effort to dominate Malone (Ohio) College 44-30 in the final game of the Malone Tournament in Canton, Ohio.
IWU scored 26 seconds into the game and never trailed throughout. Indian Wesleyan was able to push the lead to 10-2 nearly eight minutes into the contest and was never seriously threatened again.
The Wildcats forced the Pioneers into 22.9-percent (11 of 48) shooting for the contest while out-rebounding the host 40-28. Indiana Wesleyan allowed Malone to connect on one three pointer out of 12 attempts (8.3-percent). Over the tournament, IWU limited the opposition to one basket from outside.
Junior Kyra Pappas just missed a double-double as she compiled 10 points and nine rebounds. Senior Brooke Amstutz poured in a team-high 12 points along with five rebounds and three assists.
Amstutz and junior Andrea Fichter were each named to the All-Tournament team.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 5-0 on the young season as Malone drops to 1-4.
The Wildcats return to the court at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 24 as IWU travels to play IU-Northwest.
