CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the seventh-straight year, Indiana Wesleyan University earned a Top 5 finish in the final standings the NAIA LEARFIELD Directors' Cup. This prestigious award was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in the NAIA National Championships. The Wildcats totaled 889.25 points for a third place in the standings. The University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) took home the title for the second year in a row with 1,014 points, while Keiser University was runner-up with 954 points. IWU was joined by four other Crossroads League schools in the Top 50.
"What an incredible year for the Wildcats," said Athletics Director,
Deane Webb. "As we look back on the year, we're reminded of the many ways that we were blessed. Our student-athletes both pursued and reached excellence athletically, and they were used to influence others for Christ. Championships were won, and student-athletes came to know God in new and personal ways. This is yet another reminder of all that God is doing in and through our department, and I look forward to seeing what God has in store for us next!"
IWU had 19 of their 23 NAIA programs qualify for postseason play and saw 10 teams finish in the Top 10, showcasing a high-level of excellence across a wide range of athletic programs. The Wildcats earned 47 NAIA All-American honors this year across all sports.
"Congratulations to the University of the Cumberlands for earning the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup, and a special congratulations to Marian from the Crossroads League," continued Webb. "What a special competitive opportunity we have with two schools in the top four nationally from our own league. We challenge and make each other better throughout the year, and we're each the better for it."
