MARION, Ind. – No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan Softball hosted Bethel University on Tuesday afternoon. IWU won game one, 4-1 courtesy of a grand slam out of Brylee Bilger. Jordyn Ball threw a complete game shutout in game two and the Wildcats came away with the 8-0 win and another sweep for the season.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 


 

• The freshmen pitcher, Isabelle Beidelschies, started in the circle for IWU and pitched 3 scoreless innings to begin.
• The senior designated player, Brylee Bilger, put the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the 3rd with a grand slam! This marks the 15th home run of the season for Bilger, placing her tied for 3rd in the NAIA.
• Bethel would score 1 in the top of the 4th to cut into the lead, 4-1.
• Both pitchers would go the distance and neither allowed another run for the rest of the game but Beidelschies would walk away with the win, her 10th of the year.

 

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• The Wildcats started the game with hot bats as they scored 3 in the first inning. The reigning Crossroads player of the week, Abby Harvey, brought in the first two runs with a single to right field. Ella Phillips scored Harvey two batters later. 
• The 2nd inning saw a couple firsts of the year. Olivia Paulson got on base with a walk in her first at bat of the season and Carli Merritt smacked a ball into the outfield for her first double of the year. Whitney Waddell started the scoring with a single that scored Arie Hackett. Sadie Harding would extend the lead to 5-0 with a double to score 1 baserunner. Harvey continued her hot streak with her 3rd home run of the year to push the lead by 2 more runs. Harvey now sits at 3rd in the NAIA for total RBIs on the year with 65.
• The final run of the game came by way of a Maddie Martin home run that hit the scoreboard just beyond the outfield fence.
• Jordyn Ball continued her dominant year with a complete game shutout and gained her 21st win of the year, placing her third in the NAIA for wins.

 

 

BILGER PERSPECTIVE

 

 

• "The Lord was glorified in both games today," said senior Brylee Bilger. "We were able to put together two team wins and had a lot of fun doing it. It was a great day for some softball!"

 

NEXT TIME OUT

 

 

• The Wildcats will celebrate their seniors this Thursday, April 24th after a doubleheader with Mount Vernon Nazarene. The first game starts at 4:00 PM.
