NO. 12 SOFTBALL WINS EXTRA INNING THRILLER IN SWEEP OF GOSHEN

MARION, Ind. – No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan Softball took on the Goshen College Maple Leafs Wednesday afternoon in a home doubleheader. IWU powered through extra innings to win 7-6 in game 1 in an instant classic. The Wildcats dominated in game 2, winning in 6 innings by a score of 9-1.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 


 
  • After 2 scoreless innings, Goshen scored first with 4 runs in the top of the 3rd.
  • IWU answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the same inning. Brylee Bilger singled with two runners on the base path to cut the lead to 4-2.
  • In the top of the 4th, Morgan Yeater made two incredible diving catches in center field on back-to-back batters to keep Goshen from scoring again.
  • Yeater continued her good play with a triple in the bottom of the 5th inning and Abby Harvey brought her home with a single. The Wildcats tied the game at 4 when Sadie Harding hit a single to score Harvey.
  • That tie stayed through the 7th inning and the game went into extras.
  • The 8th inning started with Goshen scoring two after three straight bunts to load the bases.
  • The Wildcats fought back and tied the game again after Yeater tripled for the second time in the game with Whitney Waddell scoring from third and then she scored on a passed ball in the next at bat.
  • Jordyn Ball came in to pitch the 9th and shut down the Maple Leafs to prevent them from scoring again.
  • The bottom of the 9th started with a subbing error for GC and an automatic walk for IWU. With one on, Maddie Martin reached on an error that advanced the runner. Leah May would come up and bloop a single into right field. With the ball in the outfield Sara Ruble sprinted from second all the way to home and slid under the tag to give Indiana Wesleyan the thrilling win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • The Wildcats scored first in game 2 when Courtney Thomas doubled up the middle and scored Abby Harvey.
  • IWU picked up 4 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd. The scoring started with a double by May that scored Martin. Yeater and Harvey each earned an RBI and the final run of the inning came when Yeater sprinted home on a wild pitch.
  • Both pitchers battled as no more runs were scored until the 6th inning. Goshen picked up 1 in the top and the Wildcats earned the run rule win by scoring 4 more in the bottom of the 6th. Frehsman Morgan Humble earned her first hit of the season after coming back from injury and Brylee Bilger hit the game winning double with a runner on 3rd to finish the game.
  • Jordyn Ball picked up her 17th win on the season and recorded 9 strikeouts.
