NO. 12 SOFTBALL VICTORIOUS IN OFFENSIVE SHOOTOUT WITH USF

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan Softball traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind. for a doubleheader against the University of Saint Francis on Thursday. The Wildcats won a nail-biter in game 1, 9-7. Then a 7th inning scoring frenzy propelled IWU over Saint Francis 11-5 in game 2.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 


 
  • IWU scored 1 run in the top of the 1st but USF scored 3 of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
  • The Wildcats brought in 1 run in the 2nd with a Maddie Martin solo home run and scored another in the 3rd inning to tie the game at 3 going into the bottom of the 3rd.
  • Saint Francis would pick up 2 more in the 3rd to retake the lead, 5-3.
  • Morgan Yeater tied the game once again with a single that scored Leah May and Whitney Waddell.
  • Indiana Wesleyan took their second lead of the game in the next inning when Waddell drove home a run with a hit and Abby Harvey hit a single with the bases loaded that scored two more. The final run came from some good base running by Yeater and IWU led 9-5.
  • USF scored 2 more runs in the bottom fo the 6th but the Wildcats closed out the game in the 7th and Jordyn Ball picked up yet another win for her season.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Offense reigned supreme as game 2 had 5 total home runs, 3 for USF and 2 for the Wildcats.
  • Saint Francis took the ealry lead in the 1st, 1-0.
  • IWU scored their first run of the game in the 3rd with a Brylee Bilger solo home run.
  • In the next inning, Waddell tripled and scored 1 more. IWU expanded the lead again in the 5th by picking up 2 runs.
  • The Cougars scored 3 in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 4.
  • In the 7th, with the bases loaded, Morgan Humble gained her first RBI of the year to get the scoring started. Waddell and Yeater each brought in a runner with singles and Harvey scored both of them with a double. Bilger capped off the inning with a 2 run shot well over the outfield fence to give IWU the 11-4 lead.
  • Ella Gearhart made her pitching season debut in the 7th and closed out the game for Indiana Wesleyan.
