MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan softball team played New College of Florida and Cornerstone University on day two of the Space Coast Spring Games. The Wildcats beat the Banyans 8-5 in their first game of the day before downing the Golden Eagles, 7-3.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• Indiana Wesleyan started the game with a 4 run top of the 1st. The first two batters singled and Abby Harvey brought them home with a double. Courtney Thomas would hustled around the bases for an inside the park HR scoring 2!
• NCF scored 1 in the bottom of the first to make it 4-1 going into the 2nd.
• Morgan Yeater earned an RBI on a single in the 2nd to score Whitney Waddell. Brylee Bilger singled later in the inning to bring Yeater home.
• The Banyans scored three in the bottom of the 2nd inning and the score was 6-4 in favor of IWU going into the 3rd.
• New College of Florida scored one more in the 4th and Indiana Wesleyan was held scoreless until the 7th.
• Courtney Thomas brought in Maddie Seitz with a triple but was thrown out trying to score an inside the park HR. The very next at bat, Ella Phillips would score her own inside the park HR! With those two runs, IWU would win the game 8-5.

 


 

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• Game two was another win grinded out by the Wildcats.
• After a scoreless 1st, IWU struck first as Maddie Martin batted in Courtney Thomas. Martin made it all the way back to home plate after CU overthrew the third basemen on a hit by Sara Ruble.
• Starting pitcher Jordyn Ball kept the Golden Eagles scoreless for the first 4 innings of play.
• Abby Harvey singled in the 5th inning to bring in Whitney Waddell to extend the lead to 3-0.
• CU scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game.
• IWU retook the lead in the 6th as Morgan Yeater singled, stole second and third, and scored on Sara Ruble's single. Ruble stole second and scored on Waddell's single. Brylee Bilger put in the final nail with a solo shot HR in the 7th and Jordyn Ball iced the game in the bottom of the 7th as the Wildcats won 7-3.

• The Wildcats play Calumet College of St. Joseph and Olivet Nazarene tomorrow, March 5th, scheduled for 12:15 and 2:30 PM start times.
