NO. 18 SOFTBALL ADDS TWO MORE TO WIN STREAK

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan softball team came back from a day off to play Calumet College of St. Joseph and Olivet Nazarene on Thursday. The Wildcats beat the Crimson Wave 13-2 in 5 innings for their first game of the day before grinding out a 7-4 win over Olivet Nazarene.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 

 
  • The start of the game was a pitching battle and neither team scored in the first two innings.
  • Indiana Wesleyan would break the seal in the top of the 3rd inning as Sadie Harding batted in Abby Harvey. Ella Phillips brought in both Brylee Bilger and Harding with a double to give IWU a 3-0 lead.
  • Calumet answered back with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd.
  • Morgan Yeater kept the offense going in the 4th with an inside the park home run that scored Leah May and Whitney Waddell. Later in the inning Courtney Thomas sac flied to score Harvey who was on third base.
  • Isabelle Beidelschies shut down the Crimson Wave in the 4th inning and the Wildcats went back to work on offense.
  • The scoring started with a Whitney Waddell single that scored Leah May and Waddell would come around to home on a Yeater single. Abby Harvey batted her in the next play. The bases loaded up for Sadie Harding who hit a single that emptied the base paths to give IWU a 13-2 lead.
  • It was a strong pitching performance as Beidelschies went 4 of the 5 innings, only giving up the 2 runs in the 3rd inning and Emma Etter-Cox came in to finish the 5th inning.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • The second game of the day was quite the contrary to the first as most of the runs came in the early innings. 
  • ONU scored 3 runs in the first inning after a couple errors by the IWU defense.
  • The Wildcats fought back immediately, With the bases loaded, Brylee Bilger hit a double to deep left field that scored all three runners. She would round the bases and score on a subsequent single by Harding. The last run of the inning came by way of a triple from Ella Phillips that scored Harding.
  • Olivet Nazarene scored once more in the 2nd inning but IWU pitcher Jordyn Ball shut them out for the rest of the game.
  • In the bottom of the 4th inning, Whitney Waddell batted in Arie Hackett, who had pinch ran for Maddie Martin, and advanced Sara Ruble to third. Ruble would score during the next at bat when Yeater doubled to left field.
  • IWU held on to the 7-4 lead to win their sixth in a row.
