BUCKLEY'S 11 STRIKEOUTS LEADS WILDCATS TO SPLIT WITH MARIAN

MARION, IND. - The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team took a split with Marian on Friday, falling 15-1 in game one and taking game two 7-3. In game two Brock Buckley put together a dominant performance from the mound, going 5.1 innings and fanning a career high 11 batters.

 GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Marian set the tone for the first game with a solo home run in the first which sparked a 3 run rally with 2 outs in the inning.
  • The Knights built their lead to 6 before a Nick WIley home run put IWU on the board in the 5th.
  • That would be the only run for IWU as MU finished the game with 9 runs in the 6th and 7th innings.
  • Wiley was the only Wildcat to record multiple hits, going 2-3 and scored the only run.
  • Noah Wathen, Charlie Baker, and Gibson Adema split time on the mound allowing 10 hits and 14 earned runs with 11 strikeouts.

 GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Caleb Engelsman drove Greg Vineyard across in the first inning and later scored Ty Mathews who scored on the throw of Engelsman's stolen base to give IWU a 2-0 lead.
  • The Knights put 3 runs across in the 2nd, taking a 3-2 lead.
  • Mathews drove in Vineyard and Kyle Wu in the bottom of the 2nd to regain the lead for IWU. Darien Pugh scored Engelsman with a triple later in the inning.
  • A deep shot from Mathews in the 5th added an insurance run for the Wildcats.
  • Ty Mathews went 2-3 with 4 RBIs and scored twice. Kyle Wu went 2-2 and scored twice.
  • Brock Buckley put together a career day on the mound, striking out a career high 11 batters in just 5.1 innings.
