MATHEWS LEADS WILDCATS TO SPLIT WITH USF

FORT WAYNE, IND. - The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team earned another split with Saint Francis on Monday. Ty Mathews led the Wildcats with 3 home runs, a triple, 6 RBIs, and scored 4 times across the two games. IWU moves to 12-7 on the season and 8-4 in the Crossroads League after the first slate of league games.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • After two scoreless innings, Trevor Vojtkofsky got IWU on the board with an RBI double that scored Kyle Wu. Ty Mathews hit his first homer on the next at bat to make it 3-0.
  • Nick Wiley made it 5-0 with a 2 run shot in the 4th, scoring Grant Payson.
  • USF got two runs back in the bottom of the 4th before another Mathews bomb extend the lead to 6-2.
  • 4 Cougar runs knotted things up in the bottom of the 5th inning.
  • Payson scored for a second time to put IWU back in front, but Saint Francis would tie things in the 8th and score the winning run in the 9th to walk off game one.
  • Ty Mathews went 2-5, scoring 2 runs and tallying 3 RBIs. He was the only Wildcat ro record multiple hits.
  • Kevin Corcoran took the loss on the mound despite recording 8 strikeouts and only allowing 2 earned runs.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Ty Mathews stayed hot to start game two, blasting another solo home run in the 1st inning.
  • USF tied things up in the bottom of the 1st before Caleb Englesman plated Trevor Vojtkofsky in the 2nd on a RBI single.
  • The Cougars scored 3 runs in the 2nd to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Colin Yoder, Greg Vineyard, and Vojtkofsky each scored in the 6th inning to give Indiana Wesleyan a 6-4 lead. Saint Francis hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to bring the game back within a run.
  • IWU crossed home 5 times in the top of the final inning to extend their lead to 11-5. The Cougars got 1 run back in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run but were unable to get any other base runners in an 11-6 IWU victory.
  • Ty Mathews went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and scored twice. Caleb Engelsman went 3-4 with 3 RBIs.
  • Tarick McGlothin got his second career win and Charlie Baker recorded his first career save.
