BASEBALL SPLITS DAY WITH SAINT FRANCIS

FORT WAYNE, IND. - The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team earned a split with Saint Francis on Friday. It was a tale of two games for the WIldcats falling 19-3 in 7 innings in game one before responding with a 16-8 win in the nightcap.

 GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • USF scored 4 runs in the first two innings before Trevor Vojtkofsky and Ty Mathews picked up RBIs in the 3rd to get IWU on the board.
  • After scoring 2 in the 3rd, the Cougars scored 9 in the 4th to push their lead to 13. They added 4 more in the 5th before Kevin Corcoran pushed Mathews across with an RBI double in the 6th.
  • The Wildcats only picked up 3 hits in the game.
  • Five Wildcats saw time on the mound, combining for 3 strikeouts, 15 walks, 7 hits, and 15 earned runs.

 GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU looked to erase game one from their memory early in game two as Trevor Vojtkofsky hit a 2 run homer in the 1st before Darien Pugh blasted a bases clearing grand slam in the same inning to give the WIldcats a 6-0 lead.
  • Saint Francis got 1 run back in the bottom of the 1st, but Ty Mathews got in on the home run action in the 2nd with a 2 run bomb to push the lead to 8-1.
  • USF scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd before Darien Pugh hit his second homer of the game in the 3rd with a solo shot.
  • IWU plated 3 in the 4th and 4 in the 6th to extend their lead to 16-3.
  • The Cougars scored 5 in the 6th to try and get back into the game but it was too little too late with IWU winning 16-8.
  • Darien Pugh went 2-4 with 2 runs, and 5 RBIs to go with his 2 home runs.
  • Brock Buckley got the start on the mound and went 5.1 innings with 4 strikeouts, 6 hits, and 6 earned runs and picked up his 4th win of the season.
