KINGSPORT, TN. - The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team went 2-0 on Saturday, including a big win over No. 5 University of the Cumberlands. After winning their first game over WVU Tech 10-3 the IWU pitching staff outdueled the Patriots pitchers by giving up just one run on four hits.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• Grant Payson and Jake Thompson crossed home in the 2nd inning to give IWU a 2-0 lead.
• The Golden Bears took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 3rd, but an RBI from Trevor Vojtkofsky scored Darein Pugh and Ty Mathews scored on a passed ball to regain the lead in the bottom of the inning.
• Quinn Willard added a run on an Andrew Sinish single in the 4th.
• Jake Thompson scored on an error in the 6th before Mathews sent a grand slam over the left field wall.
• Mathews went 2-3 from the plate with 4 RBIs, and one home run.Jake Thompson and Quinn Willard both went 2-3.
• On the mound, Noah Wathen went 4 innings to pick up the win. He had five strikeouts and had 0 earned runs on three hits. Tate Wanrer entered in relief and went 3 innings, allowing 0 hits, and picking up 4 strikeouts.

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 


 

• Darien Pugh gave Indiana Wesleyan a lead in the 3rd with an RBI single that scored Quinn WIllard.
• Pugh added to the lead in the 5th with and RBI double, scoring Willard again.
• The Patriots got one run back in the 6th, but Grant Payson gave IWU an insurance run in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single, scoring Colin Yoder.
• On the mound, Brock Bucley went 5 innings of shutout baseball. He picked up 7 strikouts, 1 hit, and 1 walk. Cam lafuze earned the save in 1.1 innings of work, giving up 1 hit and 0 runs.
