NO. 1 VOLLEYBALL BEGINS SEASON WITH 3-0 SWEEP OF NO. 6 MIDLAND

MARION, IND. - No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan volleyball began their season on Friday evening, earning a 3-0 sweep of No. 6 Midland University. The Wildcats got off to a slow start in their first set of the season needing 28 points to take down the Warriors. They found their groove in the second set, winning 25-18, and dominated in the final set 25-12.

MATCH VITALS


 

  • Midland scored the match's first three points. IWU responded with four-straight to take the lead. A back and forth set saw the home team use a 6-0 run to take a two-point lead late in the set. The Warriors battled back late in the set and took a 25-24 lead. Indiana Wesleyan finally put the visitors away with kills from Eva Joldersma and Dayessi Luis.
  • Midland again took an early lead in set two, but runs of 7-3 and 6-1 gave IWU a 23-14 lead. The Warriors rattled off four-straight points, but a kill from Eva Joldersma and a service ace from Marissa Mullins sealed the set for the red and gray.
  • It was all Wildcats in the final set, taking an 18-9 lead on their way to an opening day sweep.
  • Eva Joldersma led the way with 11 kills, freshman Ella Mauck had 8 kills.
  • Abbigail Porter had 4 aces and Marissa Mullins had 3.
  • Mullins led the team with 7 blocks, Jessica Ickes added 4 of her own.
  • Porter had a team high 32 assists.
  • Cadee Notter (15), Joldersma (14), and Porter (13) each had double digit digs.

  • "We are excited to start a new journey this season," said Head Coach Candace Moats. "We feel the pressure of performing but we have strong character, grit, and a heart for each other!
