NO. 1 VOLLEYBALL DROPS FIVE SET THRILLER WITH NO. 16 IUK; DOMINATES WILBERFORCE

MARION, IND. - No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan volleyball split their two matches on Friday, dropping a five set thriller to No. 16 IU Kokomo, before dominating Wilberforce University in a 3-0 sweep.

MATCH ONE VITALS


 

  • The Wildcats got off to a good start against IUK, taking the first set 25-18.
  • IU Kokomo fell behind 16-14 midway through the second set, but rattled off a 6-2 run to retake the lead. After a back and forth rest of the set, the Cougars were able to put away IWU 25-23.
  • The Wildcats pulled within 1 point at 16-15, but that was as close as they would get in set three, falling 25-22.
  • Indiana Wesleyan dominated set four, taking a 14-9 lead before a 5-1 run gave IWU a commanding 19-10 lead. The Wildcats eventually downed IUK 25-17.
  • Things went the Wildcat's way early in the final set, holding a 8-4 lead when the teams switched sides. The Cougars found their groove outscoring the home team 11-5 the rest of the way to take the match.
  • Eva Joldersma led the offense with 19 kills. Martina Demarchi chipped in 15.
  • Marissa Mullins led the defense with 5 blocks, Jessica Ickes added 4.
  • Abbigail Porter recorded 52 assists, just 6 shy of her career high,
  • Cadee Notter led the team with 21 digs.

  • It was all Indiana Wesleyan in the match against Wilberforce, outscoring the Bulldogs 75- 24. 
  • The Wildcats won set one 25-7, set two 25-10, and set three 25-7.
  • Alex Lloyd led the team with a career high 12 kills.
  • Camaya Murray recorded 3 aces.
  • Allysen Fullenkamp posted 3 blocks.
  • Sofia Rodriguez tallied a career high 30 assists.
  • Daniella Joseph had a carrer high 7 digs.

  • "Today was a good learning day!" said Head Coach Candace Moats. "Getting the best of others requires our focus, attention to details and staying together.  We were not sharp in those areas but I know that we will learn, work hard and come back a better team.  We are excited to meet our next opponents!  Thanks to everyone who supported us this weekend!!"

  • IWU will face MidAmerica Nazarene on August 23rd at 3:30 PM.
  • The team will face #4 Concordia (10:00 AM) and #7 Columbia College (5:30 PM) on August 24th.
