MARION, Ind. – The No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan softball team split a doubleheader with No. 8 Marian University on Saturday. The Knights won the first game 4-0 before the Wildcats notched a walk-off 4-3 victory in the nightcap. IWU continues to hold on to their one-game lead in the Crossroads League standings with one week remaining in the regular season.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• IWU had two runners on in the first frame but could not push either across home plate. With two down, Brylee Bilger was hit by a pitch. Courtney Thomas drew a walk to put two on, but a strikeout ended the threat.
• Kamryn Buck led off the second with a double to left and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, but the Wildcats were unable to plate a run. Morgan Yeater doubled to lead off the third and moved to third when Sadie Harding reached on an error, but the Knights were able to keep IWU off the scoreboard.
• Marian managed to plate four runs in the seventh inning for the victory.
• For the game, Buck, Becca Wyatt and Morgan Yeater recorded hits.
• In the circle, Alyssa Wagner went the distance and had five strikeouts.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• IWU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Bilger's two-out solo blast. The Knights tied it in the second stanza.  
• The Wildcats took the lead in the fifth frame. Zoe Fountain bunted for a single and stole second base. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt, Sadie Harding drew a walk. Maddie Seitz entered as a pinch runner, stole second and both raced home on Bilger's sacrifice fly.
• Tied at 3-3 in the seventh, Yeater singled and swiped second base. After moving to third on Harding's single, Bilger laid down a bunt single, allowing Yeater to score the game-winning run.
• For the game, Bilger led the way with three hits, including a home run, and drove in four.
• In the circle, Alayna Thomas got the start and had three strikeouts. Alyssa Wagner tossed the final two innings and got the win. She had a strikeout.
